SHARJAH, 22nd August, 2026 (WAM) — The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) conducted 8,870 laboratory tests on water samples at its specialised laboratories during the first half of 2026, as part of its ongoing efforts to uphold the highest quality and safety standards and ensure the delivery of clean and safe drinking water to consumers across Sharjah.
The comprehensive tests form part of SEWA’s strategy to enhance its water quality monitoring system from the source through to consumers’ meters, using the latest technologies and advanced analytical equipment.
A total of 5,865 samples were tested at the main Water Quality Laboratory, while 3,005 samples were tested at the water and desalination plant laboratories. The extensive laboratory tests confirmed that the water was completely safe and complied with locally and internationally approved standards.
Eng. Abdulrahman Bukhalf, Director of the Water and Desalination Plants Department, said the tests covered all stages of production and distribution and aimed to verify compliance with national standards and those approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
He noted that SEWA’s water quality laboratories rely on highly qualified and specialised teams and operate under a strict quality system that is continuously updated. Their technical and operational capabilities are deployed to ensure consumers receive high-quality drinking water meeting WHO standards. He added that SEWA continuously keeps pace with scientific advances in water quality testing, stressing that the health and safety of Sharjah’s residents remain its top priority.
He explained that SEWA operates six laboratories, including the main Water Quality Laboratory at the Al Rahmaniya Water Desalination Plant and five technical laboratories at other water plants. They monitor and maintain water quality from desalination through to consumers, using advanced equipment and qualified personnel to test water and ensure its quality and freshness across Sharjah around the clock.
